Obituary for Doris Parks Smith

Doris P. Smith 87, passed away peacefully March 18, 2018 after a long and hard-fought battle with dementia.

Doris was born February 25, 1931 in St. Charles VA to Roxie and Ambrose Parks and was preceded by her husband Harry L. Smith, Sr. of 57 years of marriage and two sisters Nellie Tackett and Marie Smith and one brother Robert (Bobby) Parks.

In addition to her sisters and brother, Doris is survived by her only son Harry L. Smith, Jr. of Philadelphia Pennsylvania, sisters Margie Seal Madison Heights Virginia, Gail Sizemore Corbin Kentucky and Ambrose Parks London Kentucky. Daughter-in-Law Sandra L. Smith and grandchildren, Josiah D. Smith, Carly N. Smith, Adam M. Smith, Bryan J. Smith and great grandson Alexander E. Smith all of Philadelphia Pennsylvania.

Doris attended college at Bowling Green University in Kentucky and received her business administrative certificate. After receiving her business certificate, she worked for a coal mine in Jewell Ridge Virginia as an office administrative assistant. In the early 1970s she attended the Coffin School of Nursing in Youngstown Ohio and became a licensed practical nurse working many years in the profession she loved.

She lived in Youngstown Ohio, Detroit Michigan, Houston Texas and retired with her husband in Lynchburg Virginia. She enjoyed taking cruises with her husband especially to the Caribbean Islands and loved shopping on the islands they visited.

The family would like to extend a special thank you for all the support from family and friends during her battle with dementia.

The burial will be held at Green Haven Memorial Gardens in Canfield Ohio.
Funeral arrangements are being handled by the Edward L. Collins, Jr. Funeral Home, Inc., Oxford, PA.
